Recommending Books Success
I have some very exciting news to share with you: my friends are reading all of my favorite books! And I barely did anything, haha. Through a combination of excellent present-buying on my part, subliminal messaging for months finally kicking in, and friends actually reading my blog, I have recently been overwhelmed with excitement that the people around me in real life will finally understand why certain books are so amazing :D. I’ve discussed previously my strategy of providing books to choose from instead of specifically recommending books, and I think that some of these successes are from that as well, haha.
Friend 1: Girl of Fire and Thorns

I gave my friend Neem a copy of Girl of Fire and Thorns for the winter holidays (not Christmas in particular, just as a general yey give books thing ;-)). I was so nervous trying to come up with a present for her that at first my brain just gave up. Then I remembered Elisa and new that this book would be perfect for Neem: awesome MC, amazing fantasy world and magic, all around girl-power vibe and not too dark. She proceeded to read the book in two days and I had to send her my copies of the second two so that she could finish the trilogy (which she now has!!!).
Friend 1 (Take 2): The Lies of Locke Lamora

Clik here to view.Even more exciting (and amusing) was that before the second two books of Fire and Thorns got to her, she told me she had started The Lies of Locke Lamora, one of my favorite books of 2013!!! I was freaking flabbergasted, since I’m not sure exactly how she came to pick this one up, but she was now taking a break from one of my favorite series in order to start another of my favorite books and I couldn’t decide which to push her towards, haha.
Friend 2: Mistborn

Clik here to view. Finally, in the middle of all of my excitement of what Neem was reading, my other friend Melissa sent me an email asking if she could borrow the second Mistborn novel. I didn’t know she was reading the first!! I wish I could take credit for her starting the best known trilogy of my top favorite author, and maybe I can take a bit since I have been pushing Sanderson on her and her husband for a while, but I am now responsible for her finishing the trilogy :D. It was an awkward moment for me though since I didn’t actually own the full trilogy. I originally read it borrowed from a friend in college, so I went out and bought a lending set so that this problem didn’t arise again in the future ;-). I’m also now preparing my entire stack of Sanderson lending copies for when she needs more >.> *pets Steelheart*.
So basically, I won’t be alone in my fangirling in real life anymore :D. This has also been a bit of an eye-opening experience for me since I didn’t really expect my friends to pick up Lamora or Mistborn on their own, so now I have a whole slew of adult fantasy books that I want everyone to read!
Have you ever discovered a friend loves one of your favorite books by accident? Any fun stories of bookish presents turning out completely perfect (or completely horribly??)? What books do you think I should push on these two next? *cackles maniacally*
